Activities for children
As a centre for outdoor sports, Poppenhausen (Wasserkuppe) offers a wide range of appealing activities for children. There is lots here for youngsters to discover and try out. In addition to playgrounds, a skater park, an outdoor swimming pool and lakes for bathing, Poppenhausen also provides great opportunities for kids to have fun while they learn - such as a hands-on bakery, a nature trail and the Poppenhausen Bauernrunde bike and hike tour. Even in bad weather there is plenty for children to try out, such as the fossil Museum or the Storchshof children’s farm.
In the immediate surroundings there are also some great activities for children to try out which are quite unusual: on the Knight’s Mystery Tour youngsters set off all on their own and to find out about life in the Middle Ages. A real highlight for every child is the high-speed run on the Wasserkuppe - either as a dry luge, hover train or ‘Witches’ Broom’ gondola (Hexenbesen)- the climbing garden is new-. In Hofbieber there is a barefoot nature trail where body, mind and soul are brought into contact with various materials. In the Gersfeld wildlife park children can go for a walk and feed the animals, while in bad weather it is a good idea to drop into the Kinderakademie children’s museum or the Takka-Tukka Spielewelt play centre in Fulda. And of course a visit to one of the many spa centres and water parks is an excellent option.
